Of course there is no ultimate “history of Malmö” – instead there are many histories. This is an attempt to provide some perspectives on the historical development on Malmö and the Øresund region. The growth of medieval Malmö, a name that literally means “sand hill”, during the thirteenth century occurred for two main reasons.
